Why is Tibetan Buddhism called "Vajrayana or Mantrayana or
Tantrayana»?
Yana means "vehicle".
Because this vehicle uses recitations, sounds,
vibrations, mantras, it is called Mantrayana.
Because this vehicle uses visualisations to
generate a transformation, a positive transmutation of the ordinary
being's continuum, it is called Tantrayana.
Because this vehicle combines mantra, tantra,
sound, vibration, visualisation, appearances, phenomena, breathing,
energy, yoga, etc...
Because it conveys power over one's own
passions and obstacles on the path, this vehicle is called
Vajrayana, Adamantine, Thunderbolt, Diamond-like, - the hardest stone,
capable of cutting through and of splitting any other stone, any
passion, - just as a flash of lightning can split anything.
